Microsoft ActiveSync is software used to synchronize different file formats or information between Pocket PC devices or Windows Mobile Smartphones (collectively WM devices) with computers.

The following operations apply to devices using Windows Mobile 2003 and 2003 SE operating systems, if you use Pocket PC 2000 or 2002, the operations will be much different.

Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 is the latest data synchronization software for Windows Mobile devices. ActiveSync provides a great synchronization experience on Windows computers and Microsoft Outlook.

  • Faster file transfer and sync speeds through Outlook are only available for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices.
  • Removing remote PC sync (via Wifi or LAN) according to user feedback due to security errors.
  • Customers using Microsoft Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 with devices running Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0 will benefit from the following functional improvements in ActiveSync 4.5: Direct Push Technology, local device scanning, Authenticate certificates using Microsoft Exchange.
  • ActiveSync 4.5 does not support Microsoft Outlook 2000. The software encourages users to upgrade to Microsoft Outlook 2003 messaging and collaboration clients.
  • ActiveSync 4.5 no longer supports converting database files for use on mobile. In previous versions, the software limited this feature on devices running Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC 2013 and earlier.
  • ActiveSync 4.5 does not support converting font files on mobile devices.
  • Connection and synchronization may require separate equipment or wireless products such as wifi card, network software, server hardware, navigation software, etc. Using service packs requires Internet, wifi and power connection. phone. Features and performance vary depending on the service provider and network bandwidth.

Note: Microsoft ActiveSync only works with Windows XP SP2 and above. If using a Windows Vista computer, the synchronization settings will be managed through Windows Mobile Device Center.

Prepare before proceeding with the installation of ActiveSync

1. Visit Microsoft's Windows Mobile homepage to download the latest version of ActiveSync: The Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system is not yet officially available on the market. The attached ActiveSync version is usually version 3.7 or earlier.

2. Make sure the dock or USB cable connected to the device is not connected to the computer.

3. You should reserve an empty USB port right on your computer, avoiding connecting via an intermediate USB port on other devices.

4. If you want to sync Appointments or Contacts between your computer and WM, you need to have Microsoft Outlook installed first, please note that Microsoft Outlook, a member of the department Microsoft Office, not Outlook Express, is available with the Windows operating system. The Windows Mobile 2003 (SE) CD included with Microsoft Outlook 2002 with the registration number is usually printed right on the disc case.

5. After completing steps 3 and 4, it's best to reboot the computer and soft reset (usually click on a small hole behind the body of the device).

6. Note that the ActiveSync mobile support utility allows you to create a standard partnership with two different computers and synchronize data between them.

7. If you are planning to synchronize data via a WiFi wireless connection, make sure that the Device ID (also known as the partnership name) of your device cannot have an underscore character '_'. While WiFI networks consider the '_' character to be invalid, Microsoft always uses it as the character used in the default name, so you should change this default name when asked. If you accidentally use a name with the '_' character, you can change it at any time in your device: from the Start menu> Settings> switch to the System tab> select About> switch to Device ID card> at Device Name Leave a valid name for the device.

In my experience, there are some things you cannot accomplish using ActiveSync, don't try!

1. If you connect the device to more than two computers, you can only select up to two of them to make a standard contact, with other computers, you can choose the type of guest contact (guest partnership) to Read data in WM device.

2. ActiveSync only allows you to sync with a single e-mail account, so you need to decide which machine will be synchronized e-mail, and on the second machine, you need to uncheck the Inbox box when Synchronize data.

3. ActiveSync only synchronizes data with Microsoft Outlook, do not try to synchronize data between WM and computer with any other Personal Information Management (PIM) program including Outlook Express by ActiveSync.

4. ActiveSync only syncs in the root of Tasks (tasks), Contact (contacts), Note (notes), so you need to rearrange the data on Microsoft Outlook at the computer before proceeding. Synchronize data.

5. ActiveSync only allows data to be synchronized in the main memory of the device, so backing up the main memory regularly is essential.

6. ActiveSync does not allow creating a partnership using a WiFi connection.
