X-Unikey for Linux - Type Vietnamese on Linux

X-Unikey for Linux is a version of Unikey that helps users type Vietnamese accented on Ubuntu operating system, quite light and stable.

Download Unikey for Windows

After donwload the Vietnamese typing software for Linux X-Unikey, you will have a .deb file, double-click on the file to install as if installing the .exe file as on Windows. Continue to click Install Package , enter the password, wait a while to install. Finally, click Close to finish the installation process. Restart your computer so you can use X-Unikey.

To open X-Unikey, go to Applications> Accessories> Terminal (or press Ctrl + Alt + T ) and type " unikey ". Then a small icon of X-Unikey will appear in the lower right corner of the screen.

The operation is quite simple, left-click is to turn on / off Vietnamese typing mode (you can also use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift), right-click is to convert the included typing method (UTF8 (Unicode) ), VIQR, TCVN, VNI, BK2).

If in the course of using (when opening OpenOffice, switching between text boxes) you encounter errors of not typing Vietnamese, you can simply click on the part to be typed, turn off Vietnamese typing and turn it back on, or press Ctrl + Shift twice is okay.

If you want X-unikey to automatically open when you turn on your computer, just go to System / Preferences / Session (Ubuntu 9.04 then go to System / Preferences / Startup Applications ) and go to the Startup Programs tab and click the Add button to see three lines: Name, Comment can be installed set arbitrary, while Command type " unikey ", then click Add> Close to complete.

To remove X-Unikey from your computer, use the command:

sudo apt-get purge x-unikey

The downside of X-Unikey is that there is no configuration window, because it is so simple that it does not have many options like Unikey on Windows. It will be a small hurdle for users who are new to Ubuntu. But if you need a Vietnamese accent typing software on Ubuntu, you can try X-Unikey, because at least it helps you solve the immediate needs.
