Boxee for Linux

Boxee Software, developed by the same people who created Boxee Box, is one of the best programs for watching movies and TV for free on your computer. The software only needs a 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM and a graphics processor that supports OpenGL, DirectX 9 and 32 bit colors. Using Boxee, you have your laptop or desktop computer set into a set top box that will stream movies, TV and videos from different vendors.

You can also watch TV and movies stored on your hard drive using Boxee. Besides, you can watch your favorite content from major free TV networks, cables, streaming networks. satellite and payment services like Netflix and Vudu. It is even possible to use a remote control with Boxee.

Install Boxee

To use Boxee software, you will need to create a free Boxee account. You can go to Boxee's website to log in and download the software installation file. To install Boxee on Windows or Mac, close all programs, run the installation file, and follow the onscreen instructions.
To install Boxee on Linux, download and install the deb files. You must verify your email address before using your Boxee software.

Boxee Settings

Start Boxee and log in to your account. When prompted to set up screen calibration, click OK . You can set the screen standard again at any time. To do this, click Settings in the left corner of the Home screen, then click Look and Feel and Screen .

If you will be using Boxee while you run another program, set it to run windowed . If you want to watch the movie and television only, set it to full screen mode. In Screen Format and Overscan settings , select a 4: 3 ratio for CRT or CRT monitors. Choose a 16: 9 ratio. for an widescreen LCD or HDTV. Under Overscan , select None .

Go back to Look and Feel in Settings and select Region . Choose your location, time format and temperature.

If English is not your language, select Language to select the correct language.

Go back to Settings and select Local Files. You scan images, audio and video files to add them to Boxee.

Navigation
Right-clicking on the screen will bring you back to the previous screen or open a pop-up menu.In the Home screen, you can click the link to view your local image, listen to music, watch movies or TV shows, app installs, and local file browser. You can also click Home again to return to the Home screen.

Set up Movies and TV
Boxee allows you to add online TV shows to your own library and add both movies and TV episodes to your queue. To get started, click Movie, then click Movie Library . To find the movie to watch, then click on a movie from the library to select it.

Click on the provided icons to get more information, add movies to your queue, bookmark watched, add a shortcut or share it online. Clicking on My Movies will display the movies you've downloaded onto your hard drive.

Click on TV shows to select your favorite TV series. Click the TV Show Library to see the list of popular shows. Click the series icon in the gallery to see the list of episodes. Click Add To My Shows to add drama to your TV library. and to line up all the new episodes automatically.

Add Apps
In the Home screen, tap Apps , then App Library . Choose an app thumbnail image to install it.The most popular applications include Netflix, Pandora Radio, YouTube, VUDU movie rentals, Vevo music videos and Boxee web browsers.
Select Add to My Apps to place the applications in your App Library . Click Add Shortcut to place a shortcut icon in the Boxee pop-up menu. You can also start the application from this screen.

Browse your Queue (queue)
Your queue will always appear on the Home screen in Boxee. To access your queue fully, scroll down and click View All .
