Instructions for using Duplicate Video Search:

Step 1: Download Duplicate Video Search

Step 2: Launch the program

Step 3: Add one or more target folders

• Select which folders to scan by adding them to the list in the Source Folders box.
• Click the Add button to add the folders to the Source Folder list.
• Click the Remove button to remove the previously selected folders from the list.

Step 4: Set up optional features

The following features are optional. However, each feature will help you fine-tune how Duplicate Video Search performs a scan for duplicates.

Video reading options

Check the ' Fast video reading ' option to make the video scanning process up to 2 or 3 times faster by synchronizing audio and video. However, some DirectShow codecs can cause errors. If you encounter this problem, just turn off the reading option.

The ' Skip first __ seconds ' option that helps you skip the first few minutes of a movie is usually a preview and a trailer for the purpose of changing the duration and content. The value should be set to 180 seconds to skip the first 3 minutes when scanning a movie collection.

Video indexing options

Specify the number of seconds of each video you want to index. The longer this time period, the more accurate the ability to identify duplicate videos.

Note: the higher the index number, the longer the scanning process.

Matching options

The ' Sensitivity ' slider allows to adjust the level at which the target videos will be compared before similarity is determined. If after running the first scan, you will see more likely to fail, just adjust the sensitivity of the slider and scan again. The second scan will always take place faster and will give you a second set of comparisons.

' Max shift ' can help you identify the time difference between videos. For example, two videos may be similar but have timestamps that differ by a few seconds; this scene takes place around 4:03 in this video but it could be 4:07 in another video. You should set this value to 5.

Step 5: Start retrieving

The ' Search ' button allows you to start the testing process. Duplicate Video Search will scan selected folders to find duplicate videos. Clips found with a high level of similarity will be grouped together.

Each time Duplicate Video Search is launched, the scanning process is faster. This is achieved because the files have been indexed. Duplicate Video Search only processes a limited number of seconds per video, and then stores the signature for each one in the cache. This saves you time for the next scan by reusing those signatures and only processing new clips.

Step 6: Remove duplicate video files

After the scan is complete, Duplicate Video Search will collect the results as a thumbnail list. For each video, the program will display the duration, the last change date, the path and the resolution. The checkboxes indicate the file status to see if it is original or duplicate.

Based on the selected boxes (and the ones left blank), you will see videos that Duplicate Video Search deems identical. You can then move, delete or check their similarities.

Note: To avoid affecting computer performance, the number of thumbnails that will be displayed at the same time is 3000.

You can place or remove a checkmark by clicking on the checkbox or pressing the Space key (spacebar) . Alternatively, you can select one or more items by pressing " Shift " and " Up " / " Down " and then performing the same operations on them.
