Hoai Linh had a hard childhood, full of difficulties. Hoai Linh, full name is Vo Nguyen Hoai Linh was born on December 18, 1969 in Cam Ranh in a family of 6 children (three boys and three girls) and he is the fourth son and the oldest son in family.

His parents are from Dai Loc, Quang Nam. In addition to a married elder sister who remained in Vietnam, his family moved to the United States under the HO category in 1995 because his father had previously served in the Special Forces with the position of captain, subjected to re-education prison. 6 years in (Bien Hoa), was only released in 1982. His mother runs a private maternity home in Cam Ranh.

During this time, Hoai Linh joined the Ponaga dance troupe, then attended the professional dance school (professional training) until 1990 and returned to the dance group .
