Meteorite 0.10 Beta for Mac

MKV (Matroska) is an advanced video format, bringing clear sound and picture quality. This is the format of HD high-definition video, m-HD, . With its quite special structure (each MKV file is "packed" with video, audio, sub files inside), MKV format is prone to errors if one of those components has a problem.

What do you do after downloading a MKV HD movie of several dozen GB but cannot play it on any movie player on your computer or any HD player? At the present time, most popular video editors still have no ability to fix MKV files. Before you decide to delete the corrupted file, you should try Meteorite once, maybe it is the savior for your MKV file.

Meteorite is a new open source project, intended to be the first software to feature damaged repair of MKV video files. Currently in beta, Meteorite is the only program so far able to repair damaged MKV files.

Meteorite does not have an eye-catching graphical interface, all you need to do is drag the MKV file that cannot be played on the movie players that support this format and drop it into the program window. Meteorite will automatically start scanning files for any errors. If found, it will attempt to repair and make the file playable.

Everything happens automatically and the output files are saved in the same folder as the original file with the file name appended with the prefix "Meteorite.". For example, if the original file is named "video.mkv" then the output file will be named "Meteorite.video.mkv".

Meteorite has no buttons, no dialogs showing status of success or failure. The authors say the program still has a lot of bugs, to fix and to be finalized. However, if you currently have a corrupted MKV file, there's no reason not to try fixing it with Meteorite as a final solution before removing it.
