Have you ever wished you could block annoying pop-up windows that load a lot of time? Promoxomitron allows users to remove pop-ups and banner ads before they have time to bother you.

The name of the program comes from how the application works. The software uses a feature of the web known as HTTP Proxy. This will allow a program (local or remote) to be located right between the web browser and the Internet, to control and change the proxy if desired.

All modern browsers can change the proxy through a graphical interface, because that is part of the basic features of the web. However, some free service providers require users to use their own browser type. And those browsers are designed to be incompatible with any proxy or firewall program.

After installation, users must edit the web browser to use the program. This includes setting the proxy function for the browser.

With Netscape:

  • Run the browser and click on the " Edit " menu.
  • Select " Preferences> Advanced> Proxies ".
  • Click " Manual proxy configuration / View ".
  • Next, under HTTP type " localhost " and under the port type " 8080 ".
  • Uncheck other proxies (like FTP, Gopher , .).

With Internet Explorer:

  • Select " Tools> Internet Options> Connections ".
  • Click " Settings ".

  • Do not select " Use same proxy server for all protocols ".
  • Finally, definitely do not start proxy repair (proxy autoconfig).

For older versions of IE:

  • Select " View "> " Internet Options ", then click the " Connections " tab
  • Click " Use proxy server " and click " Advanced " or " Settings ".
  • Under HTTP enter " localhost " and port " 8080 ".
  • Remove other proxies ( FTP, Gopher , .).
  • You can set the proxy from " Internet Option " in the " Control panel ".

Other browsers:

  • The process is the same as above. First find out where the HTTP proxy entry is located. Once found, enter " local host " and " 8080 ".
  • This is an example taken from Netscape (other browsers have similar interfaces).
