PS3 System Software Update is a system software update for PS3 - Sony Computer Entertainment's gaming device.

PS3 is an acronym for PlayStation 3, a handheld gaming device from Sony Computer Entertainment. This device, like a computer or phone, requires system software to operate and this software needs to be updated regularly. The update may include security patches, new installations or feature fixes, making the operating system more efficient.

Instructions for updating PS3 by computer

To update the PS3 using a computer you need:

• PlayStation 3 system
• A computer with Internet access
• A storage device such as a Memory Stick, SD memory card, CompactFlash or USB is at least 195 MB free

Save the update file

Step 1: Create a folder on the storage device to store the updated data. Using a computer, create a folder named PS3, in this folder create a new folder named UPDATE .

Step 2: Download PS3 System Software Update and save it to the newly created UPDATE folder.

Make sure you have saved the correct update data. If stored incorrectly, the PS3 system will not recognize the updated data. The directory name must be in all capital letters:

• Save PS3 System Software Update in PS3 folder > UPDATE
• The PS3 System Software Update name is: PS3Updat.PUP

Update process

• Insert storage device containing updated data into PS3 system.
• From the home menu select Settings> System Update and press the ○ button.
• Select Update via Storage Media and press the ○ button.The system will automatically search and identify updated data stored on the storage device.
• Start updating data: Press the○buttonto start updating data.Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the update.You can delete update data saved on USB after the update is completed successfully.

Attention:

• Do not turn off the PS3 system or remove the USB stick or memory card during the update process.If an update is canceled before it is completed, the system software may be faulty, the system may require a repair.
• The power buttons on the PS3 system do not work during the update.
