Service Pack (SP) of Windows is a collection of updates, bug fixes and adjustments, previously released by Microsoft, which is gathered into a package to help users update with the latest patches and upgrades for system, which enhances security as well as corrects errors that may have been encountered before.

This release, Microsoft divided Service Pack 1 into three versions: one 32-bit version of Windows, two 64-bit versions of Windows including x64 and Itanium. All three versions will update for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 because the two operating systems are based on the same kernel. The capacity of the three SP1 versions are 550 MB (x86), 925 MB (x64) and 525 MB (Itanium) respectively.

Service Pack 1 is a comprehensive package of bug fixes and security patches. However, there are also a few new features added including: RemoteFX (accelerates 3D graphics hardware when connecting remotely, only for Windows Server 2008 R2) and Dynamic Memory (automatically assigning memory areas of guest systems running Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V). Through SP1, Windows 7 also for the first time supports Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX).
