Battle City is also known as Tank 1990 or Tank game genre which was produced and released by Nintendo Family Computer in 1985 by Namco. The game was later released by Game Boy and was included in the Japanese version of Star Fox: Assault.

Battle City is one of the first NES games to allow gamers to access the adjustment mode where they will create customized levels. However, the custom level cannot be saved.

The Game Boy version brings more challenges to the player because the screen is too small to show the full map and only enough to show a part. Gamers may have to scroll through different parts of the map to see. Therefore, defending the base becomes much more difficult while players sometimes have to be busy with destroying opponents on a certain part of the map, while another bad guy sneaks into the base, breaking destroy it without any fear. In the Game Boy version there is a radar, the NES version does not.
