Virtual Earth 3D

In order to compete with Google Earth, Microsoft also tested its web-based image search service with 360-degree rotation and full three-dimensional graphic display.

First of all, this is to get familiar with the Virtual Earth map. Click on Maps, then type any local name in the search box for the map to go there.

On this map there are two options for viewing images in two dimensions and three dimensions. Want to see 3-dimensional, you must install more ActiveX drivers or more, at least 32 MB graphics memory. However, the 2D option of Virtual Earth still yields sharp and beautiful 3D images.

View in 2D

In this section, there are two interesting views: the top view map type (Switch to Map View icon) and the perspective view for 3D feeling (Bird's eye View). Map View is used to view large maps in general, and Bird's eye View for close-up views.

Move the mouse wheel forward (or drag the slider near the plus sign) to see it closer and back (or drag the slider near the minus sign) to get farther.

In Map View, you can choose to see only the Road system or represent terrain and details (Aerial or Hybrid). This option will remain valid when switching to Bird's eye View. In this tilted map, the viewer will be able to see the views from the four corners of east - west - south - north, by pointing the arrow at one of the four letters E, W, S or N. Move the slider to the mark. plus to see as close as possible, the minus sign is the farthest distance.

After taking a closer look at a building, press Map View again to move further and go elsewhere. The small map next to the toolbar is where users can know where they are.

View in 3D

Currently a number of US cities have been put on Virtual Earth in full 3D, including Austin (Texas), Cape Coral and Tampa (Florida), Cincinnati, Northampton (England), Savannah (Georgia), Indianapolis and Ottawa.

Click on 3D, agree to install ActiveX driver and wait for few minutes. High machine configuration (graphics memory) will help to render images faster and more standard.

You have 3 ways to view photos in this section, including top down (Look down), cross view (Look down at an angle) and horizontal view (Look toward horizon).

Here, when pressing the Ctrl key, clicking on a point, you can rotate around that point 360 degrees and see the entire space. There are two ways to rotate, one is to press Ctrl and move the left / right arrow key, the other is to press Ctrl and hold the left mouse button and then move the mouse on the keyboard.

Register to save and edit place names

Some famous buildings and landmarks are marked with a red pin icon. By logging into the Live Search page using a hotmail address, users can save a list of places to visit, insert notes, share them with friends and move there faster.
