Leafsnap for iPhone

The iPhone app store has just added a new application called LeafSnap that can detect plants by analyzing leaf images.

This application distinguishes plants based on background images and the shape of leaves. IPhone users only need to point the phone's camera at a leafy image, the application will analyze and collate with the database to announce what kind of plant it is.

However, LeafSnap currently has plant data in the two cities of New York and Washington. The application development team has plans to expand the plant database across the United States but has no plans with other countries' plant databases.

This application is the product of researchers at Columbia and Maryland universities (USA) developed.
