Outlook Express Backup - Manage and backup emails

While Outlook Express (OE) is the most popular email program, 'strangers' are very few people know how to backup emails or personal settings (complex and difficult to remember) to be able to recover when something goes wrong . Perhaps because Microsoft does not provide any effective tool to help users do this themselves.

Genie-Soft Corporation's Outlook Express Backup (OEB) software (with the latest version 6.5) is truly the savior of e-mail users as their personal means of working. It can be said that this is the simplest and most effective software to use for backing up and restoring mail and OE settings.

With OEB, you can backup / restore data, set up each person who uses OE on the computer (multiple Identities) such as message filters ( message Rules ), e-mail accounts ( accounts ), information activity numbers ( preferences ), signatures ( signatures ), e-mail model ( stationery ). In addition, OEB allows backing up Favorites, Internet Explorer Settings, Windows Address Book and any files you specify.

OEB also has the capabilities: Allows you to select multiple file compression levels depending on the speed of the machine. Split backup file to fit the capacity of the storage. Can backup the backup file directly to a recording CD (if the machine has a CDR / RW drive). Protect backup files with password and 128-bit encryption. Lets see the content of the backup file and can choose to recover any item in this file. Allow scheduling of backup automatically.

Set backup

  • Run the program, open the Tools / Preferences menu.
  • In the Preferences dialog box, select the Backup Settings item (the left window) and specify the compression level in the Backup Compression Level box (the right window).Note : the stronger the compression level, the slower the backup speed.
  • Select Automatically verify my backup to have OEB automatically check the resulting file after backup, to avoid the resulting file being corrupted by an error program.
  • Check Backup without closing Outlook Express if you do not want to close OE each time you perform a backup.

The backup steps

  • Run the program, select Backup Now .
  • In the dialog box The Backup Job , make the following statements and then click Next.
  • Backup Job Name : Name for this backup, the backup file name in the Backup File Name box will change accordingly.
  • Backup File Name : Name the backup file (named tail is .boe). If compression mode is not applied, this name will be the folder name of the backup file.
  • Linkup job name with file name : Select, when you want the Backup File name and Backup Job will automatically change the same when fixing one of the two items.
  • Timestamps Settings : Specify the date and time format to automatically insert the backup file name.
  • Load a Previous Backup Job / Backup Job Name : Choose an existing backup file to get its settings applied to the new file.
  • In the Backup Media Type dialog box, choose whether to store the information as a hard drive of a personal computer / local area network (Local / LAN), FTP server (Internet), split multiple disks (Multiple Disks) or burn on CD / DVD. If you select Local / LAN, you declare the following items:
  • Backup to Local / LAN location : Specify a directory to store backup files.
  • Backup data as an executable EXE file : Create a backup file that is a self-executing compressed file (.exe), you can restore data in the file even without OE.
  • Advanced Settings : Specify the maximum size for compressed backup files (from 500MB to 2GB), on this capacity, the program will automatically split into multiple files.
  • In the Backup Items dialog box, select the components to back up. You can specify backup of each mailbox and each type of data set in OE. To add other files to the backup list, select My Files and specify the path to those files.

Steps to recovery

  • Run the program, select Restore Now .
  • In the Selecting A File To Restore dialog box, click the Select file to restore button to select an existing backup file. Click Next .
  • In the Choosing what data to restore dialog box, click the Select Identity button, select the user name, then select Back to Restore when you want to restore all your emails, or select Synchronize my e-mails when you only want to add e. -old email to new mailbox. Finally, select the components to recover and click Next .
  • In particular, you can also recover arbitrarily each e-mail by the following:
  • Open the Choosing which data to restore dialog box, in the Outlook Express Data section select the user (mail identity).
  • Select the mailbox (folder) containing mail to be recovered and click the View Folder emails button
  • Select mail -> press the Save e-mail as .ml button to recover it into a file with an extension named eml.

Note : In the case of a backup file that runs automatically, you can 'fix' by opening the Tools menu, selecting the Extracting .boe File From .exe File file to convert it to a regular compressed file, then you can do it yourself. Restoring the information well. If you are recovering from a backup file split into multiple disks, you must put the last disk containing the file with the extension name .oeb first.
