R-Drive Image

Backup and restore the drive is very important that every newbie must know when working with computers. Must practice backup regularly, at least drive C has XP installed.

Thus, when you encounter any problems (viruses, software conflicts), it only takes a few minutes to restore the old windows, just like the old days once you have a good C drive backup. on auto bootable CD, USB Flash Drive .

Do not be bothered to practice backing up, until there is a computer problem, you will run out of salvation, have to reinstall XP from the beginning, many drivers and all other software will take hours, or days.

When the installation is complete, it takes about 18.1 MB and you should choose to install somewhere other than drive C. You should not mistake R_Drive Image of this r-tt.com, with Symantec's Drive image 703 (copyright acquisition of Power Quest), and has now been renamed Image Center 5.6 (present in Hiren 92).

How to use this new software?

Running with a shortcut of R-DriveImage.exe on the desktop, it will open the main interface, named Action section.
Depending on which task you like to choose, just click next several times and there will be a wizard (wizard guide), which will help you step by step (how) to complete each task you have chosen:

1) Create an image:

Create image files for each partition of the hard disk. There are many different levels: fast (large size), slow (arc file size: the general format of R-Drive image 40, will be much smaller).

You can choose to copy the data separately and remove all pagefile.sys (conversion file of XP).

If you choose the maximum (fairly slow) compression in this part usually over 5 minutes, but in return for the image file size, the arc extension will be smaller than Ghost, True Image and Drive snapshot much.

It creates an image file for C drive in Windows while working; But you shouldn't do something else, the image making speed will be very slow.

2) Restore from Image:

It cannot be done in Windows but in an environment such as rescue CD, floppy disk, XPE, Hiren (if you know how to add ISO), or in another Windows on drive D (Win2000, 2003, Win Media center).

You should go to the Create startup disks section (horizontal with the Create an Image): it only helps you to create 2 rescue floppy disks (less used due to unexpected damage), or create ISO files (to burn to the auto CD disc bootable) 5.7MB.

When you need to recover the image file for C, put this rescue CD into the CD-ROM drive, select in CMOS first boot as CD-ROM, save the configuration and exit.

Reboot the machine, the R-Drive Image rescue CD helps you enter the temporary environment through the Kernel (Linux type), not DOS or PE environment.

You choose R estore an Image then follow its instructions, find out where the image file (source) and choose the final destination is drive C.

The recovery of this image on the CD is quite complicated: it takes many steps to ask but you should go to the help section to find more curious and have to practice several times to get used to.

Note, you should always have the Hiren 90 disc and ghost drive C available in DVD or E, F partitions, nothing misses the wrong place to recover and the chance to save.

The pace is quite fast, just a few minutes is done. You can also create image files and copy entire hard disks here (the speed is slower when done in Windows).

3) Copy a disk to a disk:

Copy the entire hard disk to another hard disk, rarely used except when replacing a new computer.

4) Connect an image as a virtual disk:

rarely use, load images on virtual drives, want to remove this virtual drive into Disconnect an image located next to it

5) Create start up disks (create a boot disk):
By 1 of 2 ways: 2 floppy disks; create ISO file or burn to CDRD disc immediately

6) Check an Image file:

Please consider whether the arc image file has been damaged in any part, lest it will recover later when unexpected damage occurs.

7) Schedule / Create a script: (periodically):

If you want to schedule periodic backups and want to use the command line, go to this section.

Note, this is a little different from other backup backup programs: there's no place for you to view recovering files inside the arc image file of R-Drive Image 40.

Convenience and inconvenience when using R-Drive image and comparing backup drive recovery programs:

1) Key advantages of R-Drive image

a) no need to install Microsoft Net Frame Work 2.0 or 3.0 (like Ghost 9, 10, 11; Drive image 703) takes tens of MB to work right in Windows.

b) The download file size (7MB) installed on windows is also small, less than 18MB.

c) Instructions for making a free recovery CD (unlike Ghost 11, 12)

d) The highest compressed image file size (excluding converted files) is a few minutes slower but smaller than Drive Snapshot (the largest) followed by ghost 11, True image 11.

e) Is there a section for checking image files to see if they appear unexpectedly (like Drive snapshot 138)

2) Inconvenience of R-Drive image 4.0:

a) How to do recovery via CD rescue is still a bit complicated through many steps, confusing is not as simple as Drive Snapshot: just one command line in DOS autoexec.bat is it done right away, from asking again.

b) The download file size, though small, must be 8MB and not as convenient as Drive Snapshot138 (do not have to install, just 1 file less than 1MB is enough.

c) There is no exe file to read the resulting image file, so it is quite inconvenient for you to need to recover some of those internal files.

What backup software does the best rating for newbie and expert:

1) Newbie: Drive snapshot only 1.38 makes backup right in windows, the smallest size without having to install, recover too easily when there is real DOS from fear of wrong.

Familiarize yourself with the R-Drive image, but you should not use Ghost 11 (32 bit in another Windows) or Ghost 11 (DOS), because if you miss the wrong place, your computer will not reboot again.

2) Expert: if it is someone who likes to use NTFS, then they are more familiar with Acronis True Image 10, 11; Ghost 11 (32 bits), Ghost 12.

In the near future, R-Drive Image will gradually replace because of the size of making image files, smarter than Ghost 11.12 because excluding conversion files, no need to install Microsoft NET Framework 2.0 and download file size also much smaller.
